Thankful November

30 Days of Gratitude

By Nicole Torretti, Publisher of Macaroni KID Enfield November 4, 2024

Like many years 2024 has had some challenges! This year has been like no other. It's so easy to get caught up in the bad. I challenge you to focus on the good during the month of November. Let's dedicate the month to finding joy and finding the GOOD things that we are thankful for. Try to find the good in each day.

Day 1- Say thank you. A simple thank you can mean so much.

Day 2-  Say thank you to yourself. Don't forget to thank yourself. Often times we are so busy focusing on everyone/eveything else that we forget about ourselves.

Day 3- Pay it forward at the drive-thru. I love buying the coffee for the person behind me. I love it even more when I hear that others followed and paid it forward as well.

Day 4- Compliment a stranger. That compliment could change their day.

Day 5- Write a positive review for a local business. Often times people just make the effort to write a negative review. If you received excellent service and have had a positive  experience let them know and write that positive review.

Day 6- Do a door stop drop off. I love surprising friends and families with surprise drop offs.

Day 7- Give up your place in line. I tend to have a full cart. I will always let the person behind me cut if they don't have a lot of items. Or sometimes I will let people go in front of me just because. Probably not the best idea if you have screaming kiddos in tow though.

Day 8- Volunteer. Whether at your local food pantry or animal shelter there are so many ways to volunteer your time.

Day 9- Call or text a friend that you haven't heard from. Life gets busy, friendships drift apart. It's still nice to check in with old friends once in a while and let them know you think about them.

Day 10- Lend a helping hand. My kids are getting their rakes ready to help rake up my grandparents yard!

Day 11- Donate items that you're no longer using. It feels wonderful to declutter. It also feels wonderful knowing goods will be put to use in someone else's home.

Day 12- Send a thank you card. Not many people send thank you cards anymore. I love when we receive them. I love giving them.

Day 13-  Treat a friend. Meet for coffee/breakfast and surprise by treating them.

Day 14- Surprise your spouse with something he/she likes. My other half came home with a pumpkin spice latte for me and it made me so happy that he thought of me.

Day 15-  Thank a teacher. Those teachers are incredible. Be sure to thank them and maybe treat them with a gift card or something.

Day 16- Self-care. Go and get that manicure and pedicure! Or relax by reading a new book. Whatever you need to do to relax, do it!

Day 17-  Play with your kids. I mean really play. Play the way they want you to play.

Day 18-  Have a stay-cation. Check out a place close to home that you've been wanting to explore.

Day 19-  Pamper your pets. Give some extra love to those fur babies.

Day 20-  Get outside. Be thankful for the beauty that surrounds you.

Day 21- Refrain from gossip. Do not say anything bad about anyone.

Day 22- Write down 5 things that you like about yourself. This should be easy. If it isn't easy then this is something that needs to be worked on.

Day 23- Try a new craft or hobby. You may even end up making some fantastic Christmas gifts.

Day 24- Paint kindness rocks. Leave words of encouragement on the rocks and leave in public places.

Day 25- Meditate. Take 5 minutes to meditate. Clear your mind.

Day 26- Take a break from technology. Put your phone down for one day. You can do it.

Day 27- Replace any complaint with a blessing. Life is a blessing. Remember you're too blessed to be stressed.

Day 28-  Write down 10 things you are grateful for. Come back to this list when you're feeling overwhelmed.

Day 29- Grace. Show it to yourself. You are good enough.

Day 30- Start a journal. Writing our thoughts, expressing our gratitude, clearing our minds can do wonders for our well-being.
