Itching to get out for the day? There's a ton to do right here at home, of course, but sometimes a road trip is the best kind of family fun! 

To make planning easier for you, we've compiled a list of 30 places to explore.

Connecticut Science Center- The Connecticut Science Center is dedicated to inspiring lifelong learning through interactive and innovative experiences that explore our changing world through science. 

Connecticut Trolley Museum-The Connecticut Trolley Museum is dedicated to providing a historically accurate educational experience of the trolley era; through the interpretation, preservation, restoration and operation of an electric railway.

Davis Farmland- It all started seven generations ago, when George Davis, a farmer from Westford MA, moved to Redstone Hill Road in 1846. In 1990, the Davis Family built a simple petting zoo, which has since grown to be the largest sanctuary of endangered or heritage livestock in North America and houses over 100 breeds of farm animals, including Highland Cattle, Poitou Donkeys, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, plus alpacas, camels, and many more! With a children’s Imagination Center, Hayrides, Pony Rides, an 80 foot Cow-A-Bunga Super Slide, Dig for Dino bones, sand and water play, Jumbo Jump Pad, state-of-the-art play structures, and Toddler Play, you can’t still can’t do everything in 7 hours! And don’t forget to enjoy lunch or dinner at the Davis BBQ Restaurant, located next door.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art- The mission of The Carle is to inspire a love of art and reading through picture books

Lake Compounce- Lake Compounce offers a historic feel with modern amusements and thrills, including Crocodile Cove, CT's largest water park!

Lupa Zoo- Lupa Zoo is a conservation and education institution demonstrating the value, beauty and interdependence of all living things. 

Lutz Children’s Museum- Every visit to the Lutz Children’s Museum is exciting because exhibits change frequently and special programs are offered daily. Most exhibits and activities are designed for children aged two through ten.The museum’s home is a former schoolhouse. Gallery halls were once classrooms, and the school auditorium is now used for classes, parties, concerts and special events. Downtown Manchester and the historical district are right down the road.

Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory- Magic Wings is a huge facility. An 8000 square-foot tropical conservatory with nearly 4000 free-flying tropical and native butterflies from all over the world! We also have exotic reptiles, frogs, fish, birds & insects to see up close and personal. 

Mansfield Drive-in Theatre & MarketplaceConnecticut’s only three-screen drive-in theater!

Mystic Aquarium- Mystic Aquarium is among the nation’s leading aquariums with more than 300 species and an extensive collection of marine mammals, including New England’s only beluga whales. Mystic Aquarium has been a pioneer in offering guests a variety of up close encounters with a wide range of marine animals. The mission of Mystic Aquarium is to inspire people to care for and protect our ocean planet through conservation, education and research. 

Mystic Seaport- Mystic Seaport Museum is the nation’s leading maritime museum. Founded in 1929 to gather and preserve the rapidly disappearing artifacts of America’s seafaring past, the Museum has grown to become a national center for research and education with the mission to “inspire an enduring connection to the American maritime experience.”

Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame- The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is home to more than three hundred inductees and more than 40000 square feet of basketball history.

New England Air Museum- The largest aerospace museum in New England!

Niantic Childrens Museum- Niantic Children's Museum is an interactive, hands-on, educational place for children to try on new roles, let their imaginations soar and feel safe while exploring the world around them. With 5,000 square feet all on one floor, an outdoor playspace, nearly all is wheelchair accessible. 

Nomads Adventure QuestNomads Adventure Quest is New England's Largest Indoor Family Entertainment Center. It is one of the most exciting things to do in CT! With over 80 of the latest Arcade Games, and all new Laser Tag Arena, 3 Rock Climbing Walls, Black Light Mini Golf, Bumper Cars, Spinning Teacups, Basketball Courts, Red's Cafe, Billiard Tables, Banquet Facilities, All New Route 66 Bowling Lanes, Bounce House Zone, Kids Arcade Zone for 4 and under, and the fantastic family restaurant Red's Tavern.

Riverside Reptiles Education Center- We are an indoor zoo dedicated to reptiles with a variety of educational opportunities.

Roaring Brook Nature Center- Roaring Brook Nature Center is tucked away in the woods of Canton, CT and offers a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience for adults and children of all ages including live animals, 5 miles of trails, a wildlife rehab clinic and programs all year long. 

Rocky Neck State Park- Rocky Neck State Park is a public recreation area situated on Long Island Sound in the town of East Lyme, Connecticut. 

Six Flags New England - Come experience New England's most thrilling theme park.

Soarin' Indoors- Connecticut's original indoor aerial adventure park.

Springfield Museums- Admission to the Springfield Museums covers five world-class museums of art, history, science, and Dr. Seuss.

Vintage Radio and Communications Museum- We are an all-volunteer run museum located in Windsor, Connecticut, offering a fascinating and educational look back in time (and technology).  Take a walk through history from Morse Code transmitters to radio and television to personal computers, and everything in between.

Wadsworth Atheneum-The Wadsworth is your place to connect with amazing art. You will find us in the heart of Hartford, CT with our castle doors open.

Wickham ParkWickham Park is a non-profit, private foundation whose property extends into both Manchester and East Hartford, Connecticut. The park contains 280 acres of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas, sports facilities, and is the proud host of weddings, receptions, fundraising walks, disc golf tournaments, tree tours, garden tours, car shows, cross country races, family and friend gatherings, and Santa’s Workshop!

Zoo at Forest Park and Education Center- The Zoo in Forest Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public awareness and appreciation for all animals and the natural environment.
